The Plan of Salvation I Information on Tithing I Archived Sermons I Useful Internet Resources

Tithing is a spiritual law of giving, where a person gives 10% of their increase back to God. The first instance in the Bible of tithing comes when Abraham is travelling home with the riches of battle after warring with a nearby king. While travelling he meets Melchizedek, a high priest of God. Abraham knew in his heart that he should give back 10% of everything he owned and had gained to this representative of God. As a result, Abraham was blessed exceedingly and abundantly. From this act a spiritual covenant was established whereby man would give 10% of all he gained back to God. There are many other instances of tithing in the Bible.

These scriptures provide references to tithing:

Genesis 14: 17 - 20; Leviticus 27:30; Malachi 3:8 - 10; II Corinthians 9:6 - 8; Luke 6:38
